'Bicycling Counts' Coming to Minneapolis

An animated projection-enabled bicycle counter

As a creative and engaging strategy for educating the Minneapolis
community about how each of our individual actions can contribute to
a healthier environment, we aim to install a projection-based bicycle
counter along the Minneapolis Greenway for the summer of 2012. (A
prototype was developed during an artist residency in Sweden in 2010.)
The counter displays the individual and collective impacts of passing
cyclists in a creative way: using statistics and graphics it demonstrates
the environmental, financial and health benefits of biking.
By showcasing how many cyclists there are, and the beneficial impact
that cycling has on our environment and our health, this project
address an opportunity to communicate that 'many people are already
doing it' to encourage even greater participation in bicycling.
